The 10x10x13mm Waterproof Tactile Switch is a mid-sized, robust input component designed for heavy-duty consumer and industrial applications. While standard 6x6mm switches are common for small gadgets, the 10mm square footprint provides a larger, more stable surface area for the user, and the 13mm height allows the actuator to reach through thick control panels or outer casings without requiring an additional plastic key cap.
Manufactured by specialists like Pran Electronics (Series 60-5S30-13-WP), this switch features an internal silicone membrane that grants it an IP67 rating, making it completely dust-tight and resistant to water immersion.

Why Use the 10x10x13mm Form Factor?
-
Integrated Height: The 13mm height is a specific engineering choice. It allows the switch to sit directly on a PCB while the plunger pokes through a thick front panel, eliminating the need for separate plastic button extensions.
-
Process Sealed (Washable): The IP67 rating means the switch can survive automated wave soldering and high-pressure aqueous cleaning. This ensures that no flux or cleaning fluid enters the contact chamber during manufacturing.
-
Environmental Shielding: The internal silicone rubber seal protects the silver-plated contacts from oxidation caused by humidity, salt air, or airborne pollutants. This is vital for a 10-year+ service life.
-
Stable 4-Pin Mounting: The 10mm wide base with four through-hole pins provides excellent mechanical anchoring, ensuring the switch won’t tilt or break under heavy, repetitive use.
Internal Architecture
-
Silicone Boot: A transparent or black silicone membrane sits between the plunger and the metal dome, creating an airtight seal.
-
Contact Material: High-grade phosphor bronze with heavy silver plating ensures low contact resistance (<100 milli Ohms) even after years of use.
-
Housing: Made from high-temperature PBT (Polybutylene Terephthalate) to withstand extreme thermal stress.
Common Applications
-
Home Appliances: Specifically washing machines, dishwashers, and microwave ovens where steam, detergent splashes, and humidity are constant factors.
-
Industrial Weighing: Electronic scales and laboratory balances used in dusty or damp environments.
-
Outdoor Control Panels: Gate openers, irrigation timers, and EV charging station interfaces.
-
Medical Equipment: Diagnostic devices and laboratory instruments that require frequent surface disinfection with liquid wipes.
-
Automotive: Secondary dashboard controls and heavy-duty interior toggles.
Design Considerations
Panel Clearance: When designing your enclosure, leave a 0.2mm to 0.3mm gap around the 13mm plunger. Because the switch is sealed, air needs a path to move around the external button; a too-tight fit can create a vacuum effect that makes the switch feel “sluggish.”
Soldering: Though it is waterproof, avoid prolonged heat during manual soldering. A maximum of 260 Deg. C for 3–5 seconds is recommended to maintain the integrity of the internal silicone seal.
